Vangelis - Themes (a review)

Vangelis is a popular composer of electronic music. His album Themes, one of my favorites, is a "greatest hits" kind of album. It contains:

• End titles from Blade Runner - my favorite Vangelis theme.
• Main theme from Missing - pretty.
• L'enfant - from Year of Living Dangerously and Opera Sauvage.
• Hymn - heard on car commercials.
• Chung Kuo - also heard on car commercials.
• The Tao of Love - very Chinese sounding.
• Theme from Antarctica.
• Love theme from Blade Runner.
• Opening titles from The Bounty - pretty and ominous.
• End titles from The Bounty - double speed (almost) version of the above.
• Memories of Green.
• La petite fille de la mer.
• Theme from Chariots of Fire - Vangelis' most famous theme.

I recommend this album.

As far as I know, Blade Runner, Missing, and The Bounty never had original soundtrack recordings. Blade Runner had an orchestral (not electronic) version.

The most memorable theme in the Carl Sagan's Cosmos TV series was Alpha, by Vangelis. That tune can be found on his Albedo 0.39 album. Back then, I bought a Tomita album because it advertised "Theme from Cosmos" on the cover. I was disappointed to find that it was not the tune that I was looking for. One of Tomita's tunes was indeed performed in Cosmos.
