Sometimes I think that I might be an ameba. I don't mean that literally. But, I sometimes act like an ameba. I stick out a pseudopod in one direction (trying something new, as it were), and flow into the pseudopod (continue doing that new thing). If I encounter resistance, I move in another direction. I have many interests. When the going gets tough, in one of them, I often lose interest, and move on to something else. I do not resolutely attack a task. And, so I have not overcome any great obstacles. I guess what people will say about me, when I'm gone, is that Jim sure had potential.
I used to be relatively successful at chess . I was an "expert" , which is just below "master", for a short time. But, I had some frustrations, and I moved to checkers, where I have had even greater success. They don't normally award "master" titles in checkers. But, in checkers-by-mail, I think that I am the checkers equivalent of a chess "master".
I once was a good trombone player. Now I do not play. I moved on to something else. I am ameboid (I like that word). I probably will not split into two amebas.
Note: "Ameba" is the accepted American version of "amoeba," which is also acceptable. "Amebas" (preferred), "amebae," "amoebas," and "amoebae" are all accepted plurals.
