The Koran (Qur'an) [under construction]

The Koran (Qur'an) by Muhammed is Islam's holy book. The Bible (Old Testament) is their other major holy book, although I don't know if they actually read it. Muhammed claimed that the Koran was dictated to him by the angel Gabriel. The Koran is repetitious, repeating a few messages over and over, with an occasional new message. The most repeated messages seem to be, upon my reading the Koran (I have only read about half of it, so far):

• Islam is the religion of Moses, Abraham, Jesus, and the Bible, and the Jews have strayed from Islam.
• There is only one God (Allah is the Arabic name for the God Jehovah of the Bible).
• The Muslims (those who submit to God's will) will be rewarded greatly in Heaven.
• The infidels (those who do not believe) will be burned in Hell forever.
• God is merciful and will forgive minor sins.
• Fear God.
• Christians believe in three gods (the trinity), and Jesus (the Messiah, meaning savior of the Jews perhaps?) never claimed to be God.
• Avoid infidels who preach other religions.

I don't mean to be critical in any way, but two messages (that Muslims will be rewarded in Heaven, and that infidels will burn in Hell) are repeated literally hundreds of times.

I am told that I have made some errors above, and that I should leave comment on the Koran to Islamic scholars. I would like to think that a person can get a good idea of what a book is about by reading it. Obviously, I may have gotten some mistaken impressions. But I have heard contradictory things about the Koran and Islam. And I wanted to clear things up for myself.

The expression "fear God" is probably easy to misinterpret, one way or another. The same expression appears in the Bible, and is sometimes contradicted (in both books) by verses which say that the believers have nothing to fear from God. I take that as the fault of the various languages (certainly we are not told to cringe and hide in fear) and not the fault of the Koran or the Bible.

From other sources, I see that these are the five pillars of Islam (I assume they all are mentioned in the Koran):

1. Shahadah or declaration of faith: 17 times a day during prayer.
2. Salat or daily prayer: five times a day.
3. Zakat or annual charity: purify oneself by giving to charity.
4. Saum or month-long fasting: fast during daylight hours during the month of Ramadan.
5. Hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca: once in a lifetime.

I will have more about the teachings of the Koran, eventually, as this page is under construction.

BTW, I also am a Muslim an have a bone of contention with Repungants like Bobbie Davis,Joey Suusharay,Davey Thompson,Sean Hennedy,And of course Ol' Rushie Limbaugh.

P.S. Remember as you go to the polls; this is a struggle with Democracy (Democrats) and Fascism (Repungants).
