GIF Animation appears little by little

© Copyright 1997, Jim Loy

The above title is an animated GIF. You should have seen it type itself onto the screen, one letter at a time. It is a gif file, with twelve images in it. The first image has no letters, the second has one letter, the third has two letters, etc. I created the last image, with twelve letters, first, using Jasc's Paint Shop Pro. Then I created each of the other eleven images by erasing one letter at a time. Then I combined all twelve images into one gif, using the freeware version of Microsoft GIF Animator, which you can use for 15 days. I specified that each image was to run one half second, and I selected the option that makes the animation repeat forever.

Blinking Christmas tree

This one is even simpler. I created a gif, with the lights of my Christmas tree. Then, I saved it as two images. In each, I blacked out some of the lights, until no light was still visible in both images. I used GIF Animator to combine these two images into one gif, selecting the repeat infinitely many times option. You can have an animation repeat any number of times. I then saw that the tree had too few lights. So I went back and added some lights.

I assume you can get GIF Animator from Microsoft's WWW pages. I got it from The GIF Animator's Guide, by Sandra E. Eddy.

First animation explodes I recently bought Jasc's Animation Shop. Here is one of the above animations, with an added special effect.
