On my first visit to Wal-Mart, I bought something for three dollars and ninety some cents. I accidentally handed the cashier five one dollar bills. As soon as it left my hand, I reached for it, and said, "I gave you too much." The girl put one dollar in the cash register; I saw that plain as day. And she said, "You gave me $4." It was very smooth, and had to be intentional. She gave me a few cents change, which I threw as far as I could. I didn't go back there for about three years. I still avoid Wal-Mart, even though I know that it was not their fault. The girl was probably fired a long time ago.
I didn't think to call a supervisor and insist that they count out the till.
