In Hang Up and Drive, I mentioned seeing a lady pedestrian, stopping automobile traffic, while talking on a cell phone in a crosswalk. I also encountered a jaywalker who apparently thought it would be a neat trick to stop traffic by walking parallel to traffic instead of at right angles. I've seen a lot of jaywalkers who stepped out into traffic without looking. I haven't seen any actual contact, though.
I saw three little girls in a crosswalk, who apparently thought it would be a hoot to stop traffic, and then not go. Cars stopped for them about a dozen times, while I was watching.
I was walking on a sidewalk on Main Street, here in Bozeman, and stopped for a "don't walk" light. There were three other pedestrians stopped there. Two of them ran across the crosswalk, easily missing the approaching cars, and the third pedestrian, a blind man, followed them, thinking that the light was green. I didn't realize what was happening, until it was too late. Luckily, the cars stopped for him.
I read that more than 50% of all pedestrians killed by cars would be legally drunk if they were driving. Maybe there is justice in this world.
