The In and
Out Shot is where you force your opponent to king, and then you use his king in
a multiple jump. It comes up fairly often, and you should be alert for it.
Diagram #1 shows it in its simplest form. White wins with 31-26 22-31 32-27 WW.
Here are some games involving examples of the in and out shot.

The pieces
are set up for an in & out shot: 3-7 11-2 12-16! 2-9 5-32 (or 16-32 to
same) 15-6 16-23 RW (31-27 23-26 30-23 22-26 RW).

Here are some famous games, which involve more complicated In and Out Shots: Barker-Wyllie, Seton-Anderson, Drummond-Hudson (diagrams 2 & 3), Moist-Smith, Anonymous-Anonymous, Chalmers-Bell, Strickland-Howell (& T.Smith-J.Smith), C.Hefter-Ready, P.Davis-D.Oldbury, Hyde-E.Markusic, F. B. Hutchins - D. Dickson, and gst_dammer - R. L. Fortman.
Here are two of my own games.
This game was played on the USA Today Sports Center Network (which no longer exists). Notice that we used handles instead of our real names.

This is a correction of a problem in 101 Checker Puzzles, by Robert Pike. Mr. Pike gives 20-16 to win in this position, but it's a draw

The solution (after 20-16) involves an in-and-out shot: 11-20!! (Mr. Pike gave 13-22 to lose) 30-26 (32-28? actually loses) 13-22 25-4 14-18 23-14 10-17 21-14 3-8 draws.
