Thousands of books have been written about checkers. Unfortunately, nearly all of them were privately printed or are out of print, and are unavailable from your local bookstore. But the ACF (Charles C. Walker, Secretary, P. O. Box 365, Petal, MS 39465) can direct you to book dealers who have checker books. Here are a few of the best books:
There are also magazines: ACF Bulletin (for ACF members), New British Draughts Journal, International Checker Hall of Fame Checkers Annual (no longer published).
I am told that Kear's Encyclopedia and Tescheleit's Master Play are two-move guides, not three-move, as three-move came later. But neither restricts itself to the two move openings.
American Checker Federation (email Al Lyman) sells books on line. Contact him about info on other book sellers.
Don Goodwin (16 Romac Dr., Scarboro, Ontario, M1C 4V6 Canada) sells books and sets. Ask him for his free book list. Most of his books are photocopies. He will probably complain that his prices are making him go broke, so send more money if you want to.
Earl Hangen, 839 Delta Ave., Northmont, Reading, PA 19605 sells the I-D booklets (mostly tough mail play openings) for $5 each. He currently has the 1990 through 2000 volumes.
Dennis Cayton, 601 Pembroke Ave., Apt. #409, Norfolk, VA, 23507-2049 sells his 1997 Compilation of the Barred Openings. Many of these openings are now legal in mail play, and soon will be added to the over-the-board three-move deck.
