Katie's Favorites, Some Children's Books

Book Review, © Copyright 2003, Jim Loy

My friend Katie has a few favorite books that I would like to tell you about. When she was little (a toddler, as that section of our local bookstore is labeled), her favorites were Good Night Moon by Margaret Wise Brown (a great way to get a child to bed by saying good night to everything including nothing), Pat the Bunny by Dorothy Kunhardt (I guess "pat" is what you do to this fuzzy bunny), and Barnyard Dance by Sandra Boynton (not my cup of cocoa, but it is a fun hoedown for kids). Now that Katie is older, she goes for any book by Jan Brett, and I have to agree, beautiful books. In particular, she likes Annie and the Wild Animals. Other Jan Brett books which I liked were The Mitten, Hedgie's Surprise, and Daisy Comes Home.

Speaking of Good Night Moon, I discovered Good Night Gorilla, a very funny little picture book about a mischievous gorilla who cannot be kept in his cage.
